Rotherham Schools Contract
in partnership with Rotherham Council and Balfour Beatty
Leading integrated security systems company, Leerose Integrated Systems Ltd, has recently secured the contract to design, install and maintain a state-of-the-art integrated security system comprising remotely monitored CCTV, access control and intruder alarm for 15 schools in the Rotherham area.
The contract was awarded to them by Balfour Beatty plc, the international engineering, construction and services group and is part of a £100 million PFI schools project for the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham. It includes the construction of ten new schools and the upgrade and refurbishment of a further five and covers a mix of both secondary and primary schools.
All 15 sites will have in place a bespoke security system that will monitor and safeguard the well being of pupils, staff and its property. The remotely monitored CCTV system known as System 2000 PLUS incorporates high speed, colour monochrome dome cameras that are capable of viewing a full 360°. These will be strategically placed to monitor and survey the buildings’ exteriors and, in particular, the car parks and main entrances. External Infra red detectors will be linked to each camera and activated in the event of a breach of the perimeter, giving the operator an early warning of an intruder/s before they have the opportunity to get anywhere near to the buildings.
These cameras can zoom in and out, automatically focusing as they go and are capable of surveying an area extremely quickly. All the images captured are digitally recorded and saved locally onto disc as well as being remotely transmitted to a central monitoring centre. The operator will be alerted to a potential problem on site and have the facility to audibly warn an intruder or offender prior to further action being taken.
CCTV equipment will also monitor each main reception area and, again, the data digitally recorded locally. Access into the school premises will be controlled by a proximity key fob system with a remote release intercom to allow access for visitors during school opening hours.
Throughout the schools a full intruder alarm system will be in place, which will be monitored by the Redcare system. This is fully compliant with the latest ACPO policy.
All data will be monitored in the administration area of the school and because it is fully networked, anyone authorised will be able to access the CCTV recordings from their own PC.
Outside school hours the system will automatically transmit the recordings to a remote monitoring centre, which will be responsible for all 15 schools.
Leerose specialise in effective security solutions. Their successes to date have been achieved because they have designed, installed and maintained bespoke systems that include CCTV, remote surveillance, access control and perimeter movement detection systems which are utilised as effective management tools.
All the systems at each of the schools comply with “Secure by Design” and Balfour Beatty shall be applying for this accreditation on completion. |
